In the Chianti hills, near the town of Barberino Val d’Elsa, in the fascinating village of Petrognano, for sale a first floor apartment in an old palace. The property is completely renovated with excellent finishes and boast a stunning panoramic view, up to the towers of San Gimignano. The property keeps the flavour of the Tuscan architectural tradition thanks to the wooden beamed ceilings, rafters and bricks and the terracotta floors. The apartment, situated on the first floor consists of a large living room with double window and a characteristic stone fireplace that occupies half of the windowed wall; a spiral staircase leads to a mezzanine used as a study, which overlooks the living area. The beautiful living room leads directly to the garden on the back of the building, situated on the same level of the apartment. Through a wide opening you can also access the kitchen, built in masonry in the style of rustic country houses, connected to a room that can be used as a study or second living room. On the same floor there are two double bedrooms and two bathrooms. The property includes also rooms located on the ground floor of a total amount of approx. 120 sqm, and more precisely: a bathroom, two cellars and two utility rooms that can be used also as a habitable basement room. The apartment has a total area of approx. 200 sqm, the mezzanine included.
Petrognano is the village of a city, a disappeared city: Semifonte. The small settlement consists of a cluster of houses arranged along the road, many of which have turreted elements (referable to the XIII and XIV centuries) and a castle. Almost nothing remains of the ancient city but after the demolition of the structures, the materials were reused in several buildings located on the same hill. In these buildings there are tower-houses which in the following centuries were transformed into farmhouses, generally after having been cut off.
At the centre of the village of Petrognano Semifonte stands the dome of San Michele Arcangelo, whose project planned that the dome was 1/8 of that of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence. Around it the hill is intensely cultivated with vines and olive trees whereas on the slopes there are wooded areas.
This means that the landscape surrounding the property is characterized by buildings of high historical and cultural interest, along with the typical panorama of the Tuscan hills.
